Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about this solution, requirements, assumptions and other inquiries

What do I get after the scan?

Upon completion of the report, you will receive the completed report via email demonstrating any vulnerability found in your external facing network. The report is customized and will also recommend any action items for each vulnerability it finds.

Do I need to prepare anything for the scan

Some firewalls will actually see the scan as a threat and may block it. We will work with your IT provider/individual to correctly configure your firewall to ignore the scan and allow it.

How long will the scan take?

Some scans will be quick while others may take a while. This will depend on the number of external IP addresses it scans, the number of open ports on the firewall and the number of vulnerabilities it find.

What is the difference between this scan and a pen test?

External scan simply look for known vulnerabilities on any open ports to the public. Pen test will attempt to use these open ports for known hacking methods. While pen test can take longer and require more resources, an external scan will provide you with a good idea of any potential problems with your environment

What is the difference between external and internal scan?

External scans only deal with external facing vulnerabilities while internal scan works from inside the network to discover any potential threats existing within your network. Both scans should be done on a regular basis to ensure no obvious vulnerabilities exist in your environment.

Can I run the scan myself?

Due to the nature of the report and the tweaking needed during the scan, it cannot be configured or ran by you.
