Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about this solution, requirements, assumptions and other inquiries

What do I get after the scan?

Upon completion of the internal scan, a report with detail information regarding each device found is delivered via email or can be looked at in the portal.

Do I need to prepare anything for the scan

Yes. Local scan does require a dedicated virtual machine running a customized appliance. The appliance can run on a Proxmox, ESXi or Hyper-V and require minimum resources to run. In addition, some firewall policies will need to be applied to allow the appliance access to specific IP addresses and URLs.

How long will the scan take?

Once the environment is ready to host the scanner, the actual install and set up is fairly simple. You should plan about one hour for the actual install as long as everything is properly prepared prior to the install. No downtime is required

What method are you using to scan the subnet?

The vulnerability scanning tool is based on Nmap which is an open source tool to identify vulnerabilities. The vulnerability scanner is not designed to identify malware or perform web application scanning.

What is the difference between external and internal scan?

External scans only deal with external facing vulnerabilities while internal scan works from inside the network to discover any potential threats existing within your network. Both scans should be done on a regular basis to ensure no obvious vulnerabilities exist in your environment.

Can I run the scan myself?

Yes. You will gain access to the reporting portal where you can customize and run the actual scans. In the portal you can specify what to scan, when to scan, and other important settings.

What is the one time fee for?

Since there is a need to deploy a local service to scan the local subnets, Zalcore will work with you to get this completed. In addition, some training will be provided so you are able to run and use the tool correctly
